Tips on how to look great in holiday photos
The cameras will be flashing this holiday season, and we can all pretty much admit that Thanksgiving, Christmas and/or Hanukkah are not the most photogenic of holidays.
It's cold, you're wearing bulky clothes, your lips are chapped, you're with family and probably wearing less makeup than usual, your tan has certainly faded by now. But, you smile and act nice and hope these pictures never see the light of day. (Yeah, right, not with Facebook around.)
Here are a few tips to keep you looking refreshed and ready for the holiday season.
SLEEP! Between all the parties and late-night cocktails with out-of-town friends, you might skimp on sleep. This is one area we can control. Sleep deprivation can wreak havoc on your appearance. Ever have anyone say to you, "Man you look tired." Yeah, it shows. Get some shut-eye.
DRESS NICE. Your grandmother wouldn't care if you show up in your PJs, just as long as you show up. But wearing pajama pants or sweats to a family holiday celebration is inane. We're not saying you need to get totally decked out (unless the invitation calls for it), but please have enough respect for yourself and your family to dress up a little. You'll feel better, and those holiday pictures will reflect it.
GET GROOMED. Have your nails done before the holidays or get a haircut if you need it. Touch up your highlights or maybe get your hair trimmed. All of these small touches will make you look better and feel better.
WEAR MAKEUP. Most women can't wait for those coveted days off when they don't have to wake up to their normal (and often annoying) beauty routine. Unfortunately, holidays shouldn't be those days. Feel free to wear less than usual, but remember those flashing cameras and how you'll feel when ol' paleface is staring back at you on Facebook. Seriously, though, just give your eyes a little pop with some eyeliner and mascara, bronze those cheeks and swipe on a tad of nude lipstick and you will be camera-ready.
DRINK WATER. In fact, suck it down. Keep a water bottle with you at all times. Drink it before meals so you don't overeat. Drink it during meals to help curb bloating. Drink it after meals to help stave off dessert cravings. Drink it while you're drinking cocktails so you'll continuously flush out toxins and avoid post-holiday bloat and acne from all the booze and refined sugars you're certain to consume. Water is the essence of life. Drink in the essence.
BACK IT UP. If you're worried about "looking fat" in the photo, stand in the back. If you're tall and can pull it off, go for it. Hide that belly!
